Project Holy Mosque

Mecca - the Blessed – is the heart of the Islamic world and the direction of prayer for Muslims worldwide. In its center lies the Kaaba, the House of God. It was found by Abraham, who laid the foundation for its present form. The Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It is a mandatory duty for Muslims that must be performed, at least once in their lifetime.

The Holy Mosque surrounding the Kaaba was extended throughout the centuries, serving the ever increasing number of worshippers. Now, the biggest expansion yet of the Al-Masjid-Al-Haram Mosque is underway to accommodate more than 1.5 million pilgrims per year. The mosque will stand as an enlightening example of Islamic architecture. To take part in the construction of the biggest mosque in the world, the world’s leading experts were assembled – from German engineers to lightweight construction experts from the United Arab Emirates. An extension of superlatives is planned - the construction will extend to half a million square meters.

The BlueChip documentary “Project Holy Mosque” follows the construction over several years across eight countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. It will give a rare insight into the sacred site, and reflect its challenges:  How do you build a mosque of these dimensions? And, who will install all components on a site that can only be entered by Muslims? The Grand Mosque - unrivaled in beauty and magnitude, designed for eternity - a project of united forces, international expertise, and profound faith.
