In 2019, Vista Media & Design developed a concept design for the revitalization of an historic gasometer building in Dresden. The gasometer with a diameter of 62 meters was built in 1908 and was one of the largest reinforced concrete structures of its time.
Our concept envisaged the use as a visitor attraction with the possibility of living and working at the same time. The roof dome is based on a pneumatic construction, which is supported by internal air pressure similar to an air hall. By using a transparent membrane, the building is penetrated by daylight, which enables lush greenery and thus creates a natural, pleasant and sustainable climate.
Radial steps form a 10-storey building wing, which is accessed from the existing towers via open corridors. Various leisure facilities such as an outdoor pool with a beach that can be used all year round and a state-of-the-art event center with immersive dome projection offer a varied program for residents and visitors alike.
